A kind-hearted dog and rabbit who are best friends learn
that differences are what make us special.
Cooper the affable and friendly dog is back, and he’s looking to make a buddy. In this second title in the award-winning Cooper the Dog series, Please Don’t Tell Cooper That Jack is a Rabbit, Cooper and his best friend rejoice in silly escapades together and learn that having differences is the best part of friendship.
When Uncle Stephen takes Cooper out in the yard, the winsome hound bounds after a rabbit outside of the fence. It isn’t long before the rabbit realizes he has nothing to fear; this playful pup is looking for a friend. Jack the Rabbit and Cooper become inseparable chums.
Whether it’s blazing through parks and playgrounds, visiting museums and bookstores, or hunting for sticks, Cooper and Jack don’t realize that some may think they make an unlikely pair, they just know that they like being around each other.
“Cooper and Jack are so much alike. They love to explore, on foot or by bike.
Playing inside or out, it depends on the weather. Either way, they have fun just being together.”
Through masterfully written rollicking rhymes by author Michelle Lander Feinberg paired with vibrant painterly illustrations by Anna Mosca, young readers will delight in the spreads of Jack and Cooper romping around and doing the things that good friends do together. The sprightly story conveys a subtle and sweet message that celebrates differences, kindness, and friendship.
“It’s no big deal that they aren’t the same. A bunny and hound? A name is just a name.”
Book Review
Please Don’t Tell Cooper That Jack is a Rabbit by Michelle Lander Feinberg is a super fun read promoting inclusiveness with lovable characters and adorable illustrations for children to enjoy and be inspired by. A beautiful award-winning book you’ll want to treasure, and to read over and over again.
I love reading books to my granddaughter, and I especially love the fun of rhyming books, they just make the story flow with a sweet sing-song cadence, so we really enjoyed the flow to this charismatic tale. There’s a lot to discuss regarding friendship and acceptance making this a book worthy of school bookshelves. The passage on sharing how you feel with your friends is also very appropriate for our times.
The illustrations are wonderful and amazing to look at. They are so unique in color and style. My granddaughter is in love with this book and these adorable characters. I love it that they look like snap shots of their time together, such fun, fun, fun! The picture of Cooper offering Jack tissues is just too sweet! But the best image of all, is of Jack (the rabbit) sleeping on Cooper (the dog). It fully emphasizes the message of the story – that it doesn’t matter what you look like, you can still be friends and that caring is important.
Michelle Lander Feinberg and Anna Mosca have created an illustrated storybook between them that is totally fun and heartwarming, as well as promoting inclusivity, tolerance and friendship. A worthy award-winning book which, although perfectly pitched for young children, will be loved by adults as well, Please Don’t Tell Cooper That Jack is a Rabbit comes very highly recommended by Kids Lit Book Cafe.
